Our Training Methods and Delivery

We understand that intelligence professionals deserve and demand realistic, highly focused training when and wherever it is needed. Therefore, DI possesses a significant capacity to tailor and tune the manner in which we deliver training globally. We offer: an "in residence" capacity; MTTs; embedded instructors and support staff; globally deployed mentors and advisors; and capacity to accommodate various forms of distance learning.

  • In-residence - DI offers the Phoenix Training Center (PTC), a world class facility located in the Washington D.C. area, where we provide resident DoD-certified training to the DIA, Navy, Army, other intelligence and military departments and agencies, as well as federal and local law enforcement agencies. Intentionally designed to maximize operational intelligence and related behavioral science instruction, the facility's modularity enables separation between training events and clients while optimizing training outcomes. A secured facility, the PTC has more than 65,000 square feet of total training space. Our facility is equipped with 17 classrooms, some with seating for up to 60 students; 35 interview rooms; and 29 team rooms with remote audio-videotaping and viewing capability.
  • Mobile Training Teams (MTTs) - An expeditionary oriented company, DI deploys globally to meet customer needs. Our instructors travel to austere, high threat locations to modern, first world urban environments to bring training to our customers. Possessing worldwide experience, our MTTs transform the client location into a rich training environment, combining classroom and field exercises into a cohesive quality curriculum.
  • Embedded Instructors and Support Staff - Driven by top quality instructors, DI's performance in training, course development, and delivery have been given the highest ratings by the U.S. Intelligence Community. As a result, many of our instructors serve as full-time or adjunct embedded staff instructors at client school houses. Additionally, acknowledging that quality training is driven by realistic operational support, we leverage our Surveillance and Role Player Academies to provide well-trained and qualified surveillance and role player cadre.
  • Globally Deployed Mentors and Advisors - When the need is for on-site, long duration, side-by-side intelligence mentoring or advising, DI provides the appropriate skilled and culturally adept professionals to meet the challenge. Possessing years of extensive domestic and international operational experience in the DoD; CIA; FBI; DEA; DoS; and in critical overseas theaters of operation, including high-threat areas such as Somalia, Yemen, Afghanistan and Iraq, our cadre of seasoned intelligence professionals ably serves as mentors and advisors to a wide variety of clients.
  • Distance Learning - DI offers the capacity to tailor courses and deliver online and other forms of distance learning to enhance education outcomes. We work with each client to determine the appropriate balance of in-person and distance learning to ensure mastery of the desired learning goals.

How We Enhance the Learning Experience

Realistic, operationally relevant training enhances the learning experience. For this reason, DI possesses a number of unique capabilities and leverages various technologies to ensure exceptional learning outcomes. These include:

  • Surveillance - DI is recognized for its professional contingent of surveillance officers; we teach surveillance and counter surveillance, as well as provide operational surveillance support to training events. We set quality standards and operate the DynCorp International Surveillance Academy delivering certified surveillance training in multi-mode surveillance tradecraft, tactics and procedures.
  • Role Playing - Training scenarios utilized in intelligence and security training curricula require role players to quickly and easily adapt to multiple roles and personality traits. The DynCorp International Role Player Academy ensures and certifies that professional role players ably and confidently foster realism with an enhanced learning experience for students participating in scenario-based exercises. Our cadre of professional role players possesses the depth of diversity (e.g. age, language, ethnicity and gender) necessary to deliver mission relevant, highly realistic training.
  • Multilingual and Culturally Sensitive Instruction - Intelligence professionals know that cultural context and language can impact assessments and intelligence outcomes. Therefore realistic intelligence training is enhanced by multilingual and culturally sensitive instruction. To this end, DI possesses the capacity to deliver in-person linguistics and native speaking interpreters. We developed a patent pending training aid to facilitate training of individuals who must rely on the use of an interpreter to accomplishment their missions. The Electronic Language Simulator (ELS) is a simple specialized training device that creates an artificial non-language using the voices of the participants. This non-language creates a communication barrier that requires an interpreter and gives the participants a live practical exercise in the use and management of an interpreter-required event. Because all participants speak a common language, no foreign language linguists are needed, and the exercise can be evaluated in the common language as well. The ELS has proved beneficial for the training of Special Forces professionals, HUMINT and counterintelligence collectors, civil affairs personnel, and professionals from the international business and NGO communities.
  • Dynamic Presentation and Enhanced Feedback - The use of video as a method to record and review students' performances is an extremely effective debriefing method. DI maintains an audio-visual laboratory and deployable video resources that can record scenarios, vignettes, classes, examples of techniques, student performances and other audio-visual training aids to enable comprehensive material assimilation, evaluation and remediation.
